The new sustainable outdoor fabric, EcoHemp
TenCate Outdoor Fabrics BV takes responsibility when it comes to the protection of people and the environment. This is why we continue to be environmentally conscious when it comes to the quality, safety and sustainability of our outdoor textiles in the tent and sun awning markets. The objectives are secured through the ISO 14001 certification. TenCate Outdoor Fabrics BV also commits itself to the REACH guidelines. Major steps have already been taken in the production processes. These include the replacement of the steam generator saving 75% on gas consumption, changing conventional lighting to LED and controlling and reducing our waste.
At product level, TenCate Outdoor Fabrics BV has also taken the next step in creating more sustainable tent fabric. We would like to introduce our new innovation: TenCate EcoHemp – a unique blend of hemp, organic cotton and recycled polyester!
The important ingredient hemp has unique properties and is very simple to grow. It requires little water for growth and the production process. It also requires little to no crop protection treatment. In addition, it has the same breathable and moisture-regulating properties as cotton.
To make the fabric extra strong, a second material is needed. Polyester is the most commonly used raw material in the camping industry as it is easy to produce and is strong in relation to its weight. To reduce the global impact on the use of polyester, more and more recycled polyester is being used. So is, for example, a yarn developed using recycled plastic from old fishing nets. This yarn is of such good quality that it can also be used for tent material. By using recycled polyester, there is less negative impact on the environment and it reinforces the Hemp fabric to ensure the tents are more durable.
Lastly a limited amount of organic cotton is added. This ensures an ideal mix of comfort, sustainability and quality. Organic cotton is 100% biologically grown using only natural crop protection products.
The use of raw materials in TenCate EcoHemp has led to a significant reduction in the CO2 footprint, lower energy costs and savings on water consumption throughout the production process.
TenCate EcoHemp is woven in accordance to the strict standards of the Organic Content Standard (OCS) and Global Recycling Standard (GRS). This ultimate eco-friendly tent fabric is strong, breathable, water-repellent and dirt & mould resistant. Ideal for pyramid and tunnel tents, trailer tents and glamping tents.
