THE GROWING PAVILION WITH TENCATE TENT FABRIC

Societal challenges such as climate change, land subsidence, C02 emissions and the scarcity of fossil fuels require new, sustainable solutions. The call for a more biobased and circular economy is becoming ever greater and increasingly important. This is why Company New Heroes and the Dutch Design Foundation embarked, together with other pioneers, on an experiment to build an iconic biobased pavilion for the Dutch Design Week 2019: The Growing Pavilion.
This structure shows the possibilities, and above all the wonderful beauty, of biobased construction. The pavilion is unique in the way in which a large number of biobased materials, such as wood, hemp, mycelium, cattail and cotton from TenCate Outdoor Fabrics, come together to form an extraordinary creation.
The pavilion shows what the near future will bring in the field of biobased construction. “We take a vulnerable position here”, adds Lucas De Man, Founder & CEO of Company New Heroes. “Our ideal pavilion holds many new biobased materials. However, it takes more than just some good materials to create large-scale applications: upscaling production; appropriate regulation; innovative designers and conscious consumers”. The Growing Pavilion puts this issue on the agenda, as it is essential to achieve the desired transition to a biobased and circular economy.
